A love
of the beauty of God’s creation and a desire to interpret that beauty through
drawing and painting have been major factors in my life.
I studied
art throughout middle school, high school, and at the University of Memphis.
After marrying and having two children, my art creation opportunities centered
around church, scouts, and my children’s schools. When I became faced with
“the empty nest”, I started taking watercolor classes. My love of painting
has grown and expanded to include oils and my favorite medium, pastels.
I have
continued my art education by taking workshops and classes from locally
and nationally known artists, including Don Andrews, Alan Flattman, Janet
Walsh, Greg Biolchini, Suzanna Winton, Paul DeMarrais, Richard McKinley,
Tom and Peggy Root.
I was
honored by having a pen and ink drawing displayed in the White House during
Christmas 1999. I have executed commissions for a book cover, a Music
CD cover, pastel portraits, and several private residences and historic
buildings in Tennessee and Alabama.
Recent
juried shows include the Alabama Pastel Society’s 2008 National Show, the
Appalachian Pastel Society’s 2012 National Show, the Virginia Highlands
2012 Show, the Kingsport Art Guild 2013 Appalachian Art Show, North Carolina
2013 Statewide Juried Pastel Exhibition, 2013 Jonesborough Open Juried
Art Show.
Recent
Awards include Kingsport Art Guild Member’s Show - Third Place in 2008
and 2012, Watauga Valley Art League 2013 6X6 Show - First Place, Pastel
Division, Kingsport Art Guild 2013 Appalachian Art Show – Award of Excellence.
It
is my hope that my artwork will bring enjoyment and an uplifted spirit
to all those who view it.
