Martha Erwin
Martha Erwin, Curator of
Unicoi County Heritage Museum enjoys working in history of her native Unicoi
County. She resides in Erwin and paints the subjects she studies and writes
about as Museum Curator.
Martha has studied art under
many distinguished and nationally known art instructors including Urban
Bird, Jan Kunz, Homer Hacker, Tom Lynch, and Polly Newell. As an Appalachian
artist, Erwin paints exclusively in transparent watercolors, and her artwork
depicts an endless abundance of varied subject matter.
Since 1983, Martha
has been a working member of the Watauga Valley Art League, serving as
recording secretary for many years. Martha displays her art in League Exhibits,
and in Northeast Tennessee businesses as a member of the Roving Gallery.
She is also a member of Tennessee Watercolor Society.
Her more recent art awards
are Honorable Mentions for “Still Water” from 2011 Newell Hendershot Watermedia
Exhibition and for “Tennessee Spring House” from 2012 Summer Show at Sycamore
Shoals. In 2011 Her “Sand Hill Crane” received Award of Excellence from
Judge Tom Root in the Summer Show at Sycamore Shoals.
